FISH  STORY  MURAL  PUBLIC  ART

Awarded by the City of Hollywood | Mural location: SASA Cafe Italiano | 2001 Van Buren Street | Hollywood | Florida | 2016

The Fish Story mural is a medium-sized mural within the Downtown Hollywood Mural Projects. The mural pays homage to the  Art Deco era’s architectural splendor. The inspiration for the mural emerged when Georgeta recognized the entire wall’s resonance with  Art Deco architecture.

She then learned that this wall was added to the house in the 1930s, which coincided with the flourishing of the Art Deco movement in the United States.

The mural portrays a grand and stylized fish within a decorative seascape of undulating waves. This vibrant depiction carries the suggestive title “Fish Story.” At its heart, the mural pays tribute to both aquatic life and the dynamic nature of storytelling itself.

Central to the mural is an Art Deco round window that Georgeta has transformed into a radiant sun, which emanates beams of sunshine

stretching outward, adding a touch of warmth and luminosity to the scene.

The Fish Story mural captures the essence of time, style, and narrative, merging the heritage of Art Deco with the vibrancy of a fish’s journey

through the sea. It is a testament to the power of art as it weaves together history, creativity, and the vibrant pulse of life.

TESTIMONIALS

“The Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency would like to thank Murals by Georgeta for being a vital part of our Riviera Beach Art and Branding Project. Georgeta had the daunting task of installing a great piece of artwork at the main intersection of our City. The design and the final product were truly something special. Her positive work ethic and consummate professionalism were also to be admired. We look forward to working with her in the near future.” – Riviera Beach CRA Leadership

“We hired Georgeta for a custom paint project on the keel bulb of a racing sailboat belonging to a client. She was very professional and worked with us to get the design exactly as we wanted it. She was also super flexible about using the marine paint that was required for the job. Once the work started, she was incredibly efficient and actually finished ahead of schedule. The result was excellent and was identical to the presented design. We would absolutely work with Georgeta again and highly recommend her for custom paintwork.”  Brad Magovsky, AREA 51 Global Logistics

I have worked with Georgeta on three Public Art mural projects… I have had the privilege to witness her work ethic and ability to communicate and work with staff and stakeholders to achieve a consensus regarding the final mural. ABOUT ART DECO

Art Deco, also called style moderne, movement in the decorative arts and architecture that originated in the 1920s and developed
into a major style in western Europe and the United States during the 1930s. Its name was derived from the
Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes
held in Paris in 1925, where the style was first exhibited.
Art Deco design represented modernism turned into fashion. Its products included both individually crafted luxury items
and mass-produced wares, but, in either case, the intention was to create a sleek and antitraditional elegance that symbolized wealth and sophistication.
The distinguishing features of the style are simple, clean shapes, often with a “streamlined” look; ornament that is geometric or stylized
from representational forms; and unusually varied, often expensive materials, which frequently include man-made substances
(plastics, especially Bakelite; vita-glass; and ferroconcrete) in addition to natural ones (jade, silver, ivory, obsidian, chrome, and rock crystal).
Though Art Deco objects were rarely mass-produced, the characteristic features of the style reflected admiration for the modernity
of the machine and for the inherent design qualities of machine-made objects
(e.g., relative simplicity, planarity, symmetry, and unvaried repetition of elements).
