FLORIDA IMPRESSIONS MURAL Dome in Rotunda, Lauderhill City Hall, Florida, 2009

This mural’s focus was to emphasize Florida flora and fauna. Since this was a mural for a government building, I went back to antiquity to get my inspirations. The once colorful Greek Parthenon, built on democracy principles, was the starting point. I used the colorful band from the Parthenon around the base of the dome to give the mural a formal and elegant look. I used trompe l’oeil to make the viewer perceive the whole dome as a real scenery. Therefore, to achieve more depth, I added a base, imitating coral stone that comes from the ocean. This public mural invites the visitors to connect to history and admire Florida local scenery with birds, flowers, plants, and trees.
